WSBI president stresse vital role played by savings and retail banks in local, regional economies
BRUSSELS, 13 October 2014 – At the occasion of the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., a WSBI delegation led by WSBI President Heinrich Haasis had the honor to be received by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
During the meeting, WSBI President stressed the vital role that savings and retail banks play as the backbone of local and regional economies. He also insisted on the importance of building a resilient banking system that is characterised by proportionality to take into account the impact of regulation on the functioning of retail banks. Retail banks finance an important part of the real economy and this role should not be harmed or undermined with regulations imposed as a consequence of the crisis.
