BRUSSELS, 20 October 2020 (Updates original story filed on 19 October) – The 2020 World Savings Day kick-off event took place live today.
The virtual event brought together partners, financial education and inclusion experts as well as many other interested stakeholders. Starting at 10 am Brussels time, the web-based event featured examples of celebrations from WSBI-ESBG membership as well as a presentation by Iona Bain, a UK-based writer, speaker and broadcaster specialising in young people and finance. The online event gathered WSBI-ESBG members and partners, marking a moment to highlight the importance of savings, especially in the context of the Covid-19 crisis. The event also features economist and financial educator Shekinah Dare from the Centrale Bank van Curaçao who highlights a "Money Box" Kid programme done in schools. World Savings Day partner organisation Aflatoun International also participates, with its Chief Executive Roeland Monasch presenting.
2020 theme: 'When you save a bit, big things follow'
Held in and around 31 October, World Savings Day brings together WSBI members, banking authorities and partner organisations under the campaign theme “When you save a bit, big things follow” with social media hashtag #savebig2020. To help share this year's message, participating WSBI members and World Savings Day partner organisations will conduct outreach campaigns for people of all walks of life, especially young people. To help partners along the journey, WSBI provides a quick-and-easy guide and tools on the WorldSavingsDay.info website with basic ideas to help create and promote the benefits of thrift.
ASEAN members celebrate World Savings Day
Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will celebrate the day too. A first-ever initiative of the ASEAN Working Committee on FInancial Inclusion, members will organise an Asian Savings Day that coincides with World Savings Day under the same theme. Representing some 661 million people in 10 states, they join many organisations and WSBI member banks around the world who celebrate the day.

WSBI allows approved, participating partners full use of the logo and theme “When you save a bit, big things follow!". Use of the logo is allowed when highlighting World Savings Day on your conference website, stationary or the event signage. E-mail WSBI to receive logos.
