BRUSSELS, 23 November 2017  WSBI member banks made the list of safest banks in the latest Global Finance magazine annual survey.

BancoEstado of Chile was lists as the safest, most solid bank in Latin America, a title the bank has held for the sixth year running​. It received new recognition of its work and the role it plays in Chilean society. 

The award was received by BancoEstado President Enrique Marshall, and Carlos Martabit, general manager of finance, during a ceremony in Washington D.C., in the context of meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with Chilean authorities.

​BancoEstado CFO Carlos Martabit, said: "This recognition reaffirms BancoEstado's position at the regional level (first) and within emerging markets. Our international ratings awarded by the three most important classifiers, have allowed us to maintain this position over the years."

BancoEstado also ranked 13th in the list of top 50 emerging markets banks, along with WSBI-ESBG member Česká spořitelna of the Czech Republic.

WSBI German, Luxembourgish member banks make list of top 50 worldwide

Global Finance magazine's "World's Safest Banks" appears in the November edition of the magazine, which also includes a list of the 50 safest banks in the following categories: global level, commercial, and emerging markets and by continent.

​WSBI-ESBG member banks ranked in the top 50 worldwide were Banque et Caisse d'Epargne et l'Etat of Luxemburg, Germany's Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and Swedbank of Sweden. Member OTP Bank of Hungary was listed 9th out of 10 in Central, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. ​In the Europe Top 50, the Sparkasse, Swedbank and Banque et Caisse d'Epargne de l'Etat were joined by Česká spořitelna​ and France's Group BPCE. 

WSBI members State Bank of India was rated tops in India, WSBI-ESBG members Bank of Valleta was the country winner in Malta and Česká spořitelna​ rated highest in the Czech Republic. WSBI member National Savings Bank was ranked safest in Sri Lanka.
