WSBI Doubling Savings Accounts programme concludes

BRUSSELS, 5 February 2016 – WSBI's flagship programme, supported by $20m of funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reached its conclusion at the end of January. Its primary goal of doubling the number of savings accounts for the poor was achieved at the six member banks that sustained projects throughout the seven year duration and external evaluators provided positive assessments of WSBI and members' qualitative achievements. The programme's influence and impact also spread beyond individual projects, not least having led to WSBI's UFA 2020 partnership with the World Bank. WSBI is actively applying for new sources of funding to build on the programme's accomplishments.
