​WSBI publishes working paper providing virtual currencies ​snapshot









​​​BRUSSELS, 5 January 2015 – WSBI has published a working paper that provides a snapshot on virtual currencies and focuses on convertible, decentralised virtual currencies. 

The paper reviews the short hisotry of virtual currencies and its early use as means of payment and speculative asset. Whilst the actual economic footprint of virtual currencies remains very limited, there is a flurry of debates as to the impact a wider adoption could have on the economy and on monetary policy as well as on the underlying technology.
