ICBA News: U.S. retailers seek uniform data breach standard

​Retail groups call on congressional leaders to establish a single federal standard for notifying consumers of data breaches

                   

​​​​​A coalition of 44 retail groups called on congressional leaders to establish a single federal standard for notifying consumers of data breaches. The retailers said legislation should not demand notices from some sectors while exempting others. ICBA, the WSBI-Member in the U.S. continues to support federal legislation that would establish a national data-security breach notification standard and subject all participants in the payments system to Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act-like data security standards. A breach-notification requirement without data-security standards is an unacceptable piecemeal approach.
