ESBG welcomes two new members

Denmark’s Lokale Pengeinstitutter, association of Belgian banks join

​​​​BRUSSELS, Friday, 3 June 2016 – The ESBG board of directors and general assembly today approved applications of two candidate members.

Lokale Pengeinstitutter (LOPI), the Association of Local Banks, Savings Banks and Cooperative Banks in Denmark, will become a member effective immediately. LOPI is an association of 62 local banks, savings banks and cooperative banks in Denmark, The Faroe Islands, and Greenland. The circle of members includes practically all the Danish local banks with a distinctive local presence. The circle of members who comprise the more than 110-year-old body provide services in about 525 branches and employs approximately 8,100 staff and have around a 25 per cent share of the retail banking and SME commercial lending markets. The 32 savings banks within the association's membership have a combined €11 billion of total non-bank deposits as of year-end 2014 and a total balance sheet valued at €14 billion.

​Belgian group of banks also join

ESBG also welcomes eight Belgian banks that have been approved to join ESBG. The octet, grouped as an association, is formed from Axa Bank Europe nv, Bank J. Van Breda & Co. nv, Bank Nagelmackers nv, Beobank nv, Crelan nv and VDK Spaarbank nv along with current ESBG members Argenta Spaarbank nv and bpost Bank - bpost Banque nv. As an ESBG member, the group will replace the two current ESBG memberships from Belgium. The eight Belgian members together serve more than three million customers and have a combined €93 billion in non-bank deposits and a €120 billion balance sheet.

Based in 20 European countries, ESBG membership now comprises 25 financial institutions or associations in 20 European countries. ESBG members represent total assets of €7.1 trillion with more than 60,000 outlets and employing 810,000 people who serve some 190 million customers in Europe.
