ESBG Markets Regulation Committee meets in Madrid

BRUSSELS, 29 May 2015  – The ESBG Markets Regulation Committee met  today for the third time at the Cecabank premises in Madrid, Spain. The meeting included member discussion on the state of play of the dossiers. 

ESBG welcome Mr Tajinder Singh, deputy secretary general at the International Organization of Securities Comissions (IOSCO), as a guest speaker. He delievered a speech on  "Market Based Finance – balancing the growth agenda with regulatory objectives." Mr Singh's work includes providing strategic advice, implementing aspects of IOSCO's Strategic Direction, managing relations with IOSCO's membership, and being responsible for the administrative functioning of its secretariat. His working background includes a position at the Securities and Exchange Board of India where he acted as the head of international affairs & human resource development and executive assistant to the chair. He also worked at the Ministry of Finance for the India government.

The Markets Regulation Committee meeting agenda discussed several topics, including:

  • MiFID II and UCITS V
  • latest developments following the publication of ESMA's technical advice;
  • ESBG's future activities on PRIIPs level 2;
  • the recent adoption of the ECON Reports on Benchmarks Regulation and Securities Financing Transactions;
  • the Capital Markets Union, including ESBG's responses to the European Commission consultation, and next steps; and 
  • the upcoming Review of the EMIR Regulation.
