EIB, CaixaBank sign SME finance agreement

​​​BRUSSELS, 18 May 2015 ​– The European Investment Bank (EIB) and ESBG member CaixaBank have signed a finance contract in support of Spanish SMEs.  

EIB will lend to CaixaBank €450 million and CaixaBank will lend an additional €450 million. These funds will be used to finance the investment projects and working capital needs of SMEs, mainly in industry and services.

CaixaBank’s CEO Gonzalo Cortázar stressed that the institution would continue making available new projects for companies at the same time he encouraged SMEs “to invest in innovation to add value to their products and services, setting course for the globalization of their offering”. Mr. Cortázar also praised “the EIB’s key role in supporting economic activity and helping to create jobs in Spain”.

In the same way, EIB Vice-President Román Escolano, said that SMEs “represent the backbone of the country’s productive fabric and the key to strengthening the recovery and fostering job creation”. He added the EIB’s engagement in supporting economic activity and helping to create jobs in Spain.
