BRUSSELS, 3 December 2015 – The WSBI member in Albania, Banka Kombëtare Tregtare (BKT) is celebrating its 90th anniversary of the establishment. Its first branch was established in Durrës on 29 November 1925, in the historical building where today’s BKT Durrës Branch is situated. This building actually represents the oldest Albanian financial institution in the country. 1 November 1926 and 15 November 1926 are the dates in which BKT’s Shkodra and Vlora Branches were established respectively. With today’s name, BKT was renamed in January 1993, after the merging of the Albanian Commercial Bank and the National Bank of Albania.
Actually BKT is the largest, the oldest and the most evaluated commercial bank in Albania. Only in the last 10 years, BKT has been evaluated as “The Best Bank in Albania” six times by The Banker, four times by Euromoney, five times by EMEA Finance and received many other international evaluations.
With total assets of 2.8 billion USD, in its 90th anniversary BKT has expanded its network to 90 branches, 64 of which are located in Albania and 26 in Kosovo.
