Asia-Pacific Forum on Financial Inclusion and WSBI Regional Group Meeting 2016
Date: 6/04/2016 - 8/04/2016
Location: Tokyo, Japan

22nd Meeting of the WSBI Asia-Pacific Regional Group

Tokyo, 6 April 2016

The Asian retail banking market is going through dramatic changes driven by innovation. Asian bankers are concerned that the biggest threat facing the banking industry is not the risk of bad loans or competition from traditional banking players, but rather the increasing disruption caused by non-traditional players, such as mobile money operators, e-commerce players, business retailers, Fintech companies, etc. This trend is forcing banks to seek quick and adequate response to this threat and to consider how this new development can be turned an opportunity through new business models, including strategic partnership.

The 2016 WSBI Asia Regional Group meeting will highlight examples of such disruption from non-bank players and selected case studies on how banks are responding to the challenges. The exchange will be followed by roundtable debates on how WSBI members have defined or should define their strategy and transformation plan in order to meet these challenges.
